9th ALDinHE Conference: University of Leeds
"Learning Development in a digital age: emerging literacies and learning spaces"
2-4 April 2012

Our theme for 2012 is "Learning Development in a digital age: emerging literacies and learning spaces"

Across the Learning Development community there is significant interest in the implications of an increasingly digital learning environment and its impact on the learning experience. Our 2012 conference is an exciting opportunity to consider how we operate in a digital age:
  • how are new and emerging technologies changing learning and teaching?
  • how is our perception of academic literacies changing in response to this?
  • when, where and how is learning and teaching taking place?
  • what is the role of students as partners and facilitators of learning in a digital age?
  • what demands does this place on traditional learning spaces?
This conference is about more than just technology. The digital age offers opportunities for learning to take place in a multitude of spaces and modalities. As always the annual conference will represent the full range of interests and work of learning developers; we look forward to receiving proposals for workshops, case studies and snapshots of work in progress that address the conference theme in a variety of ways.

Keynote Speakers

Confirmed Keynote speakers are:

Professor Gráinne Conole: Director, Beyond Distance Research Alliance; University of Leicester

Paul Andrews: Head of Centre for Digitally Enhanced Learning (CDEL); University of Wales, Newport
Paul Andrews is the new head of Newport University's Centre for Digitally Enhanced Learning (CDEL) and is passionate about e-learning and learning technology. With a diverse academic background in Further and Higher Education along with a strong technical understanding Paul has made it his focus to work alongside staff and students in order to enhance their learning development through the appropriate introduction and effective use of digital tools, allowing them to work smarter and seamlessly integrate new resources and tools into the learning environment. He is an advocate of getting things done cost effectively and more often than not, with no cost at all and as such runs a successful website and blog that showcases the world’s best free online learning resources. Paul promises to present us with a practical and user centred keynote that is responsive to the changing needs of Learning Development. A stimulating, thought provoking and skill enhancing session for all levels of technological confidence.
