I examined the experience of first year students in the Education school at Edinburgh. I looked at their identity creation and the different parts of themselves they chose to show at university during their first year. I also examined the challenges they had and what helped them to get through their degree. I also identified that students who wanted to become technical teachers would base their knowledge on their lived experience of a best teacher rather than use the information they were learning at university to inform their teaching.
