Regional symposia

Symposia provide an opportunity for practitioners with wide ranging experience to network and exchange practice on a chosen theme(s) hosted by a HEI usually local to attendees (although you are welcome to travel). The host HEI communicates the programme and booking details via LDHEN to ALDinHE members. The aim of the one-day events is to encourage building local communities and networks of practice and support around the symposium, as well as inspire others to host future events.

Whether you are relatively new to Learning Development or an old hand, regional symposia are a fantastic and relatively cheap opportunity to learn from and share practice with each other. You will also contribute to raising the profile and importance of LD within your institution and nationally, as well as building up your own portfolio of evidence for UKPSF or research. Many attendees have tried and tested an idea, project, practice, etc. at a regional symposium and have then decided to get involved at ALDinHE’s national conference.

Forthcoming events in 2017:
  • 16th June: Canterbury Christchurch University, Models of study skills provision & delivery in different HEIs/LD and its place in HE as a theme
  • 26th June: Leeds Beckett University, Supporting Distance Learners’ Academic Skills Development.
  • 28th June: University of Northampton

Interested in hosting, attending or presenting at a symposium?

There are three regional coordinators who can help as all of them have hosted an event. Please get in touch with:

If you’re not sure where you ‘sit’, contact any of the coordinators for signposting.
